  • Short Story:

The sun shone brightly through the trees as a group of baby monkeys played together in the soft grass. Among them was little Benji, a tiny monkey with a curious and playful spirit. He loved running, climbing, and exploring, but today, his friend Lolo had other plans.

Lolo, slightly bigger and more affectionate, decided that Benji was the perfect playmate. As Benji tried to scurry off to climb a nearby tree, Lolo grabbed him in a tight hug. At first, Benji squeaked in surprise, his little arms flailing. He tried to wiggle free, but Lolo’s grip was too strong.

“Let go, Lolo!” Benji chattered, his tiny voice filled with frustration. But Lolo just giggled and hugged him tighter, rocking back and forth as if Benji was a little doll.

Benji’s small legs wobbled under Lolo’s weight, and before he could balance himself, the two tumbled over! Benji let out a startled squeak as they rolled down a small incline, ending up in a soft patch of grass.

Dazed and unable to move, Benji lay flat on his back while Lolo sat on top of him, still hugging. The other baby monkeys stopped their games and gathered around, their curious eyes wide as they watched the scene unfold.

One of the older monkeys, noticing Benji’s plight, let out a warning chatter. Lolo finally loosened his grip and looked down at Benji, his eyes wide with confusion as if to ask, “What’s wrong?”

Benji slowly got up, wobbling a little, and glared at his friend. “You’re too heavy, Lolo!” he squeaked, puffing out his tiny chest in an attempt to look serious. But Lolo just giggled again, reaching for another hug.

This time, Benji was quicker. He darted away, climbing up a nearby branch before Lolo could catch him again. From his perch, he chattered down to his friend, who was still sitting in the grass, looking around for someone else to hug.

Despite the tumble and the fall, Benji couldn’t stay mad. That was just Lolo—clumsy, affectionate, and always full of energy. And even though Lolo’s hugs could sometimes be a little too much, Benji knew it was his friend’s way of showing love.

  • Excerpt:

Benji wiggled and squirmed, but Lolo’s hug was unrelenting. “Lolo, I can’t move!” he squeaked, his tiny hands pushing against his friend.

Before Benji could escape, his legs gave way, and the two tumbled over in a heap. Lolo, still hugging, sat triumphantly on top of his dazed friend, unaware of the chaos he had caused.

“Lolo, get off!” Benji squeaked again, but Lolo only blinked, tilting his head as if wondering what the fuss was about. Finally, with a loud chatter from a nearby adult, Lolo let go, leaving Benji to catch his breath and scurry away to safety.
